Can a car fail its MOT on windscreen wipers?

The answer is yes – the windscreen wipers are checked during the annual MOT test and if they’re judged to be ineffective, then your car will fail its MOT.

There are a few signs which suggest you need to replace the wiper blades such as:

• The wipers don’t clear the windscreen
• They make squealing noises
• They leave streaks on the windscreen
• They don’t make proper contact with the windscreen
